In 2020, Brookfield acquired the Power Solutions division of Johnson controls (renamed Clarios). Power solutions manufacturers lead acid batteries for a wide variety of automotive vehicles. While many pureplay electric vehicle makers have pivoted to lithium-ion batteries, traditional ICE vehicles and hybrids still use lead acid batteries. With supporting tailwinds from widespread battery deployment, Brookfield appears likely to leverage its operational expertise to carve out and improve on a market leader in the space.
